Sin City 2 news has been all but non-existant lately :) So I’m keeping an eye out on news regarding Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, or any of the cast members.

The website Cinematical has put out some of the new photos from Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming movie Grindhouse. I was surprised to see Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie in the cast, I didn’t know she was in it. To view the pics, click here.

Comic Book Resources posted a press release from Warner Bros. and IMAX announcing that Frank Miller’s Spartan movie 300 will be simultaneously released in IMAX format on opening day.
From what I’ve seen from the trailers, this is most definitely one of the movies that should be seen in an IMAX theatre! I can’t wait!!

He didn’t land the part of James Bond, placing him in one of the biggest movie franchises ever. But he did land the part of Philip Marlowe, who, to some, is just as big as Bond.
Actor Clive Owen will not only be playing the popular movie detective, but he’ll be executive producing two remakes from the franchise, The Big Sleep (the original starred Humphrey Bogart) and Farewell, My Lovely (original starred Robert Mitchum). Other actors who’ve played Philip Marlowe include James Garner, James Caan, and Elliott Gould.

First up is a website that’s a bit behind on reporting the whole Angelina Jolie/Rachel Weisz thing. One thing they’re also reporting, however, is that the movie’s not scheduled to shoot until next year, which, if true, SUCKS!
One of my favorite movie sites, CHUD, has scored an interview with Frank Miller on the set of 300. In it, he touches on Sin City 2 a little bit, specifically two major bits of info: 1) that if he “has his way”, there can be not 2, not 3, but FIVE Sin City movies!! Miller also mentions that the plot of Sin City 2 will feature a newly-written Nancy Callahan story, which will later be released in graphic novel form.

Amazon is already taking pre-orders for Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming companion book, Grindhouse: The Sleaze-Filled Saga of an Exploitation Double Feature
, which will be filled with photos, interviews and other info regarding the movie and the “grindhouse” genre. You can check out Troublemaker Publishing (Robert’s own publishing company) to learn more about the book. The book will be released in March, at the same time as the movie.
Click here to visit Amazon to place your order for the book.

In an interview for Sci-Fi Wire, actress Brittany Murphy said she definitely wants to be part of Sin City 2 and any other Sin City movies that are made. “I would pop into any of the Sin City movies and say one line,” is what she said.
The interview was posted this morning, but I don’t know how far ago the actual interview takes place. If Brittany Murphy hasn’t been offered her part for Shellie, that means either she’s not in it (which would be odd because she’s in every one of the books) or there isn’t a script yet. Which disheartens me because I was under the impression that shooting A Dame To Kill For would begin in February.
However, IMDB is listing Sin City 2 as in pre-production… perhaps they’re working on the script this very minute! Keep your fingers crossed!

After someone commented on my last post about Rose McGowan possibly playing Ava Lord in Sin City 2 (the comment being it wasn’t true), I started finding other sources that said the same, one being Cinematical which directly quotes the origin of the rumor. So now we’re back to just Rachel Weisz :)

Movies Online is claiming that rumors of Rachel Weisz taking over the part intended for Angelina Jolie are now accompanied by other rumors that yet another babe actress, Rose McGowan, may play Ava Lord.
This actually makes more sense than the Rachel Weisz rumor, as Rose McGowan appears next in Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino’s double feature Grindhouse.
In any case, it’ll be interesting to see if any other actresses are mentioned for Ava in Sin City 2 :)

An inside source of Cinema Blend is claiming that the crew behind Sin City 2 got tired of waiting for Angelina Jolie to open up her schedule to play Ava Lord, and that Robert Rodriguez is now in talks to cast Rachel Weisz as the “Dame to Kill for”!
While Cinema Blend acknowledges that there isn’t much behind the source of the rumor, I think it makes sense. From what I’ve read before when Angelina Jolie would talk about Sin City, while she claimed she was up for it, she didn’t seem that excited by it. So making time to shoot Sin City 2 wouldn’t be her top priority. Plus given Robert Rodriguez’s breakneck filming style, it’d make sense that he’d want to start production ASAP.
But I also dig Cinema Blend’s suggestion to use Scarlett Johansson instead :D
