SXSW (South By Southwest) is a very popular film festival that caters mainly to the younger crowd and takes place in Austin, Texas, Robert Rodriguez’s hometown! SXSW is also showcasing Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse, so what better place to host a contest for “Grindhouse-style” trailers!
Visit Popcorn & Sticky Floors to learn more about the contest, whose entries will be judged by Robert Rodriguez himself. The “best of the bunch” will be screened in a presentation called “Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse 101″.
There are already some entries submitted by major filmmakers like Rob Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses) and Eli Roth (Hostel).

I came across a webpage that summarized Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Grindhouse, and all the way at the bottom it mentioned that Sin City 2 was coming out this year and that Sin City 3 was coming out in 2008! So naturally I dash over to IMDB and what do I find but a listing for Sin City 3 “last updated” in October ‘06. Where the hell was I when this was announced?? :D
In the comments section it mentions filming in February ‘07 ‘06, which is when I heard Sin City 2 begins filming. Could they be filming them simultaneously? It’d make sense, given Sin City’s non-linear narrative style.

Mark Olsen at the Los Angeles Times wrote up an interesting review of Frank Miller’s upcoming movie 300, about the battle between an entire Persian horde against only 300 Spartans. In the review Olsen draws up the similarity in shooting style to that of the first Sin City movie, which was shot almost entirely against greenscreen, with “sets” composited digitally.
To read the article, click here.
It also mentions the costumes, which are almost non-existant (in an attempt to stay as true as possible to history, the actors wear sandals and loincloths and little more), so if you had a problem with the costumes in Apocalypto, you’ll probably have a problem with 300. Fortunately I’m mature enough to get past that, lol. Frank Miller’s 300, starring Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera), hits theatres March 9th.

I’ll admit I don’t keep up much with comics anymore, just a few here and there. So when I found out that Frank Miller is doing Batman vs. Osama bin Laden graphic novel, I thought it was a joke.
But it appears legit! Between working on his upcoming adaptation 300 and Sin City 2, Frank Miller’s been putting in time on a graphic novel he’s drawing and writing himself where Batman fights al Qaeda in Gotham City. He’s keeping mum on whether Batman fights Osama himself. The article was posted in November and Miller mentions he’s got around 50 pages left, so I’d guesstimate he’ll be finishing the book sometime next month.

I thought I’d throw out some link love by highlighting a few websites I found featuring the author’s list of must-see movies for 2007. Among the list, of course, is Sin City 2!
I Think I’ll Be In Film Junk Food Heaven… - posted on Sneakers and Stilettos
Superheroes y adaptaciones de comic 2007 - posted on Ser Cinefago Segun John Trent (in Spanish… he actually mistranslates “A Dame To Kill For” to “A Dame To Die For”, lol… fortunately a commentor has the correct translation)
My Top 10 Most anticipated Movies of 2007 - posted on Alec, My MySpace Blog
Looking Ahead - posted on Conor Aaron Riley (this one’s a bit pessimistic about a 2007 release… but us Rodriguez fans know it can happen!)
If you’ve got a movie list featuring Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, comment below!

Angelina Jolie to play Ava Lord. This isn’t exactly breaking news as it’s been floating around in the internet for weeks now (that first link dates December 8).
But while scouring the web for the absolute latest on Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, I came across a link on Comics2Film with the headline “Miller confirms Angelina to be Ava in Sin City 2″; unfortunately, clicking on the link takes you to an Italian website that seems to be some kind of “not found” page. Running the page through Altavista’s Babelfish showed a blank page.
Fortunately, after further digging, I found a post that featured what looks like an automated translation:
The scenario of “Sin concluded City 2” e’. Frank has declared to festival the Hollywood Goats Miller, author of the lucky person graphic novel from which e’ be drawn the first “Sin City” that in 2005 incasso’ all over the world nearly 160 million dollars. In the cast e’ confirmed also Angelina Jolie, of its participation the author the da’ for sure had rumoreggiato some time ago but hour. The attrice sara’ the gatta one died Ava Lord. Frank Miller between the credited other e’ like Co-director of “Sin City 2” thus as he was for the first “Sin City”, signed with the cult director Robert Rodriguez. The film would have to exit within 2007. (Agr)
So… assuming the translation is correct and the source is legit, we now have confirmation that Angelina Jolie is playing Ava Lord in Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For!

I’d like to welcome everyone to my Sin City 2 movie fan site, which currently has no cool original name :P I’m a big fan of many of the people involved in this movie, especially Robert Rodriguez and Clive Owen. I’ve been following Robert since I first saw Desperado, and of Clive since I first saw the BMW Films online (I even got the DVD!).
I’m also a big fan of Frank Miller, and not just of the Sin City comics but his Batman work as well. His bold, unique drawing styles and gritty stories always kept me interesting compared to all the other schlock that was being pumped out at the time (I’m talking early 90’s, when Image Comics was the biggest thing around).
What I hope to do with this website is to keep up with all the news and media surrounding the upcoming movie sequel Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For, which is supposed to come out this fall (or at least that’s the latest I’ve heard). But not just the movie itself but anything related to it, like the actors, the comics, and if one comes out, games! So bookmark this site, contribute some comments and check back regularly!
